Among the important festivals and cultural events, some, in particular, are worthy of note:

Notte della Taranta (Tarantula’s Night), Melpignano (LE).

the Notte della Taranta is a folkore music (la pizzica) festival. It takes place in all towns belonging to the Grecìa Salentina area in summer time. The festival ends in the city of Melpignano where thousands of visitors get together until late night to see the festival closing concert. Worth mentioning is the performance carried out by the Notte della Taranta’s Orchestra. 
Sagra della "cucuzzata" (courgettes, tomatos and spices pie ), Santa Cesarea Terme (LE).
This is a very ancient festival during which the “cucuzzata" is celebrated.
